Shipped!

The decks are on their way! Deck the halls?

Interesting news the other day about Kristen Hersh, musician who fronted Throwing Muses, now rockin' as 50 Foot Wave, and becoming a music revolutionary. She has come to take the free music for donations approach that Radiohead did just a few weeks ago, creating a movement called the CASH Music Project, aka the Coalition of Artists and Stake Holders. I think we will be seeing a lot more of this happening. My opinion is that offering music for free will free the music. Musicians still need to eat, usually, pay the rent/mortgage, and so on. Unfortunately, we must leave this as an exercise for the reader... Robert Fripp recommends that musicians take up something like plumbing. I don't think I would hire myself as a plumber.

Check out Kristen HERE.

New MP3 - Unit Vector

Hey there harried netizens! Take a break from your pre-holiday festivities, shopping, and egg nog sipping, to check out the newly uploaded MP3 from Unit Vector.

Also, it's time to announce the launch of this year's hit sensation, a deck of strategy cards inspired by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt's "Oblique Strategies - over 100 worthwhile dilemnas". Our deck has 50 cards. That's all you're getting, but it's better than that lump of coal you were expecting. The official strategy deck from BitWorks Music is "Bleak Strategies - rock ideas for the desperate". This will be a collector's item, as we are currently only producing a limited run of 250 for this year. Are you jumping up and down shouting at your screen yet? Well, calm down. I am accepting pre-orders now by email only ($14 + S&H for the limited numbered edition). You will also be able to find them for sale at The Music Loft of Carrboro. I expect to have the first batch ready around December 14th. Stay tuned...

Lastly, a quick update on the catalog restore. The uploads are about halfway complete. If you want to make a purchase, you might want to drop me an email first to make sure the album is available. Of course, we guarantee your download happiness, so no worries.

Unit Vector - "Off the Tilted Edge"

I have restored Unit Vector's debut release in the catalog. "Off the Tilted Edge" contains high resolution graphics and the video "The United Hates of Iraqistan", available in WMV, MOV, and M4V format. This is our most advanced album presentation software release to date, redefining the state of the art in multimedia album downloads. We hope to continue in this exciting direction in the coming year.

Later this week I will have UV as the featured free download. Stay tuned for that, and for our thrilling holiday project!

BitWorks Restore Roulette!

Heya kids! Well, with the holidays rolling around before you know it, I thought we could have a little pre-holiday fun. What we have been enjoying here is our own little online version of Katrina--yes, we're talking major disaster relief of the web kind. It seems somebody, either my web hosting company, or possibly my boneheaded admin self, nuked the catalog completely. While I cannot say for sure what or who did the old 'rm', I will be restoring the albums over the next couple of weeks, and re-introducing them to you lucky listeners one at a time. If there is a particular album you wish to purchase now, email me and I will put it first in the queue. The alternative is to pay to have the backup tape pulled, and .. hell if I'm going to do that! So hey, make it worth my toil and buy some of these album downloads of sonic mayhem. Requests?

CATALOG IS DOWN!

If you make a purchase this week, I will be in touch with you to get your downloads to you right away. We are (hopefully) having some files restored from a backup tape very soon.

Technology is so awesome?

Musos Wanted For Online Project--THIS WEEKEND!

I will be doing some online brainstorming this weekend, and you're invited!!! Iff, you are a musician, have a good and/or bizarre sense of humor, and are willing to give up an hour or two of your time contributing to our first product of the holiday season (in fact, our only product for this holiday season), please email me ASAP! You will get no cash, sorry, but you will be a noted contributor to the product and will most likely get one for free--a collectors item no doubt. I will likely need you to be available Sunday afternoon or evening (eastern US time). The timing is flexible, so if you would like to contribute ideas, I will probably be able to use your help.

Thanks!

More Bright Idears

With the holidays coming up, if you're like me you have no idea what to get people. Well, music fans, look no further! I have just the gift for the musician in your life. What is it? I'm not tellin'. It would completely ruin the surprise. BUT, I will tell you this: if you come back early next week, not only will I tell you then, but you will be able to preorder!!! "You must be kidding!" you say. No, I am not, I assure you. However, if you successfully guess what the new and exciting product is by leaving a comment in this blog, I will send you a free one. NOTE: if you are one of the few people I have already told, sorry. You're so disqualified, cheater!

What She Said

Some people have their blog rolls well populated with links to blogs of all their friends and enemies, links to useful information and some not so useful information. I'm too lazy to get with the blog roll thing, plus there are really very few blogs that I actually read, but a couple of years ago I stumbled upon Rockstar Mommy. Not only is she lol funny on a regular basis (along with her obvious rockstar qualities), but she has just started posting music on Sundays, with generous servings of YouTube-isms. Today's post features one of my favorite bands, Radiohead. That reminds me, I still haven't bought their new album, "In Rainbows". I'm going to lose my fanboy badge! You can pay whatever you want to download it, in case you haven't heard, their kick in the teeth of the music industry.
